Senator Blue pushes job creation

Filed in Press Releases

Raleigh— Senator Dan Blue praised this week’s announcement from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics that North Carolina created the most jobs nationally in August. The report, which noted that North Carolina added 18,600 non-farm payroll positions last month, also said the state is fourth in the nation in employment gains over the last year and third in jobless rate decreases. Last week, the state Employment Security Commission announced that the unemployment rate has decreased for six straight months and is at its lowest level in a year.

During this year’s legislative session, Senator Blue successfully worked to create and save jobs by enacting a refundable tax credit for 125,000 small businesses that employ 500,000 people. Blue also helped protect critical job creation initiatives that have brought tens of thousands of jobs to our state—including 5,800 new jobs this year.

“Creating jobs is my top priority and we continue to face enormous challenges. I am pleased, however, that North Carolina is slowly but steadily coming out of the Great Recession and is poised to lead the nation in the recovery. Until everyone who wants a job has one, we cannot let up in our efforts,” Senator Blue said.

Since the legislative session ended in July, Senator Blue has been meeting with and discussing unemployment and job creation with constituents throughout Eastern Wake County.
